  1. Hi Loren,

A Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or Personal Video Recorder (PVR) is a device that records video in a digital format to a hard disk drive. DVRs are taking the place of the obsolete VCRs.

Probably the best known brand is TiVo and it is by far the most advanced but other manufactures are selling DVRs that require no monthly fee but they are a little more difficult to use and program - more like the old VCRs were.

  2. ^^^ what they said =]

  3. Digital Video Recorder, records tv onto a harddrive, instead of tapes. Can pause, record, rewind LIVE tv :)

  4. DVR is a Digital Video Recorder. Instead of a tape like a VCR, a DVR records video onto a hard drive like whats in your computer.

A tape from a VCR is probably grainy and altogether not as good of quality as the original when played back. A recording onto DVR is just as good as the original.

The programming for a DVR is probobly better than a VCR so its easier to program the show you want to record.

Ive heard the Tivo does this great but I think it has a monthly service charge.
