I always read and hear about people's "pace time" being 3:20 and 4:39:67, and so on. But, I just can't figure out what that means. Is it hrs: mins: secs, mins: secs or something totally different? I'll read about someone doing a marathon run in 6:46:23. What EXACTLY does this number mean? I've looked everywhere online and can't seem to find an answer.

Can someone please help me understand this better?

  1. I think that the "pace time means how fast they are running a mile but i'm not sure. The 6:46:23 means that they ran the marathon in 6 hours  46 mins and 23 secs

If someone tells you that they ran a 3:20 then simply ask them what did they run in 3:20

  2. Pace time is the time a person has set to accomplish, they may have splits they are trying to meet to get to this pace time of a marathon race.  Ex. as above stated 6 hours 46 minutes and 23 seconds is there time.

  3. It's how fast ur run a mile if someone runs a 5k at a 6min mile pace that mean they ran there average mile around 6mins.
