I recently watched an episode of one of my favorite anime series, "Samurai Champloo" in which the main characters were in a restaurant eating Sabu Sabu and commenting on how good it was.

It looked pretty tasty in the cartoon!

Can someone tell me about Sabu Sabu and where I can get some out here in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County?

  1. Here's an article on shabu shabu and also a restaurant mentioned in LA.

  2. It Asian style (Japanese influenced) hot pot. I really enjoy it and I think its healthy too!

The concept is similar to fondue.  You can try the MELTING POT (fondue at the Melting Pot is not just a pot with a melted cheese mixture or a pot of melted chocolate, but they also have a broth type fondue pot. (Example, you're served a plate of uncooked meats and vegetables, of which you in turn, cook or heat up in the various fondue pots using skewers, then eat).

The broth style fondue is similar or the same as "Shabu Shabu".  (One of the THE MELTING POT locations that I know of is located in Old Towne Pasadena)

For a more authentic style SHABU SHABU, consider these places too:

    WAHOO SHABU SHABU

(this place is a little trendy yet casual)

    111 N Atlantic Blvd

    Monterey Park, CA 91754

    Phone: (626) 293-8322

    MON LAND HOT POT CITY,

    251 W. Bencamp Street,

    San Gabriel, CA 91776

    (626) 289-4889

    Hope this helps.

  3. It's hot pot.
