Hi, I just kind of moved from another country and I saw this girl obsessing over her sweet sixteen party. I was just wondering what it was and why it seems to be so important than any other one of your birthdays in your life. I'll gladly accept any answers.

    It used to celebrate a girl's virginity, although this aspect of the party is losing it's meaning.
