A project manager is responsible for ensuring that a project is completed properly and on time.  There are usually a lot of little details involved in anything and it needs to be managed properly so that no detail is missed from beginning to end.  Each project would probably be somewhat unique and require different things to be done so it's really not possible to tell you EXACTLY what is supposed be done.
