I assume it's a room in a house, but what sort of house would have one?

  1. It's also sometimes called a "sun room", Florida room, or solarium (depending on the part of world one lives) It's a closed-in room with walls of windows, that allows one to enjoy the outdoors without being out in uncomfortable weather conditions. As for what kind of house? Usually a more expensive one. :)

  2. A conservatory is like a greenhouse that is used for the display of plants moreso than the cultivation of them. And, I think it's just what the British call a greenhouse.

  3. A conservatory is a large room that was originally determined for use as a music room.  These days it is whatever you want to use it for.  Our community has a conservatory as an option if it fits on the lot that you choose.  All corner lots have to choose either a conservatory or a solarium addition on the side.  The solarium is just a little smaller addition.  Mostly I see people decorating them as additional living space with a baby grand, a wet bar and in general extra entertaining in addition to the formal living and dining room.  They are always located right off these rooms.  Our homes in this neighborhood are from 3000 to 6000 sq. ft.  A conservatory would work with any of these homes.
