  1. It's a Unit of the Police that Develops stuff.

  2. I presume it a department within the Force that deals with inhouse training and development of Probationer constables.

  3. The PDU is where you will be working during your tutoring period.  In most forces this is about 10 weeks.  This is after you have completed your classromm based law training.

Basically, this is where you will be attached to with a tutor constable, who will stick with you for those 10 weeks.

You will be a resource to your area, and go out on jobs and patrol as a normal officer... but you will never be single crewed, you will always be with a qualified and experienced tutor constable to guide you and help you.

After the 10 weeks, your tutor will decide if you are suitable for independant patrol.  If you are, you will be signed off and go to work on a shift or neighbourhood team and be expected to know how to deal with all the paperwork and all the many various situations you will face.

I dont work in Norfolk, but in my force the PDU you go to is in the same area as where you will be permanently based, as your time with your tutor will give you time not only to learn the job, but also to learn the area and meet your colleagues.

  4. its a room where police men and women make babies
