  1. seriously?

  2. Well, most of the groups you mention are just members of Europe's nobility who inherited a title, but no power.

  3. we don' have any of them because we washed our hands of monarchy when we broke away from england in 1776 (this ring a bell?) in the revolutionary war. America is a DEMOCRACY meaning that the people rule. The royal family in England doesn't rule the country anymore, they are pretty much ceremonial so no, they are not like the president. the closest thing to a president in Britain is the prime minister. They got the title because they are direct

descendants of the present king or queen.

you're right Sue, technically the U.S. is a republic.

  4. Some of these people are very nasty to you. Kings are made by fighting at the front of wars and by having certain skills (people skills/motivation skills/using fear) they become the leader of their group.. and can then expand and conqure others to form this large kingdom (go watch the movie Alexander with Collin Ferell).  Back in 1770's people in the US were fed up with being ruled by and paying taxes to soem monarch overseas so they revolted (boston tea party etc).

The point in the fight wasn't to find a new "king". If the US ever would have had a king it would have been George Washington but he didn't fight for us to be a kingdom. He wanted us to be free and so we are... or at least were.. because if you consider doing now what Americans did back in 1776 you'd be in Gitmo for being a terrorist.... hummm....

To be a president you must be voted into office. To be king you literally fight to become one and  then pass it off to you sons (or maybe daughters).

  5. If the USA wanted a King/Queen to rule over American, then the USA President (George Washington) would had became a King.

Americans did not want to have a British King to rule over them. That is the reason why the founding fathers of USA broke away from Great Britain and went to America to start a new country. That is the reason why America has elected Presidents instead of Kings and Queens.

  6. A king or sometimes a queen (like now) is a hereditary ruler whose ancestors were also royalty.  The British royal family goes back to William the Conqueror, who made himself King of England in 1066 by defeating the English at the Battle of Hastings.

Typically, a monarch is succeeded by his or her oldest son or, if that son is deceased, by HIS oldest son.  In the UK, if the monarch has no sons, his or her oldest daughter becomes Queen in her own right, as the present Queen did 56 years ago.

A reigning king's wife is a queen, but a reigning queen's husband does not usually receive the title of king.  There are two other reigning queens in Europe at the moment, Beatrix of the Netherlands and Margrethe of Denmark, and their husbands, like Prince Philip, are not called king.  In most monarchies the children of a king or queen are princes and princesses.

After the American Revolution, there was a movement to make George Washington a king, but he refused.  The Constitution, adopted in 1787, specifically prohibits titles of royalty or nobility in the US.

Does that take care of things for you?

  7. are you serious?  You're not sure if the US has kings and queens?

You should probably invest in a political science class...

  8. have ya passed first grade history yet?

Cause why we don't have kings and queens in the US is covered from, like, first grade on.  You DO understand that the United States is a REPUBLIC, and was founded as a protest against the British King George.

And in the sixth grade, you should have studied HOW the kings got their titles, and the Roman Empire, and the beginnings of feudalism and how there were tons of little kingdoms, and the kings would fight each other, to get more power and land (and money) and then some royals married each other, to strengthen their power bases, and make their countries larger, still?  Did ya get ANY of that in school?

Did you ever here ANY of the fairy tales about princes and princesses and kings and queens?  Do you know who Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are?   (they were princesses).

Kings, originally, fought to get the power that they gained.  They would fight each other, and the winner would take the land, palaces, and wealth of the loser.  That's the way things were done in Europe during the Middle Ages.  Mostly, the kingdoms started out fairly small, and grew, through marriage, and war.

Other titles came down, were inherited, by relatives of the king.  His sons were princes, and daughters were princesses.  Those who did NOT inherit the throne, but lived to produce children, gave the title Duke and Duchess to their children.  The titles go down from there.

Originally, all titles were inherited, but as time went on, and kingdoms became large and expensive to run, sometimes kings would be willing to sell titles to the wealthy merchants who wanted the titles so their children would have more status.  Often, a poorer noble would marry his children to a wealthy merchant, so the merchant would have more status, and the noble would have more money.  (love did not actually enter into the idea of marriage until about the 19th century).

Nowadays, titles are often conferred on people who have somehow contributed to the well-being of the people.  Really important people like Elton John, Maggie Smith, and Paul McCartney....note the sarcasm.  I really don't see how entertainers should be given titles, but then, I'm not the Queen of Britain, either.

However, King, and Queen are only inherited, these days.

Prince is almost always the son of a King and/or Queen, but can also be the husband of a reigning queen, as in Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh (husband of Queen Elizabeth).

Princess is either the daughter of the King and/or Queen (as in Princess Anne, the Princess Royal of England, or the Princesses Elena and Cristina of Spain) or the wife of a Prince, as Princess Diana was, or Princess Letizia of Spain (she's married to Prince Felipe, who will be king of Spain someday).

Also, many princes are also Dukes.  Prince Andrew is the Duke of York.  Prince Edward is the Duke of (Gloucester, right?), and Prince Philip is the Duke of Edinburgh...Prince Charles, btw, is the Duke of Cornwall, but then, he has tons of titles, as is often the case.

    Got it now?

We haven't got a king or queen in the US, because we were founded on the protest AGAINST exactly that.
