What exactly is a prostate? And what does it do?

I recently found out my dad has prostate cancer but I dont fully understand what a prostate is.

The prostate is a donut-shaped gland circling the urethra just under the bladder. It releases fluids that make up part of s***n and regulates urination.

It's the gland that controls the pressure behind urination and ejaculation. Without the use of one they wouldn't be able to pee it would sort of trickle out. Good luck with your Dad. I hope he pulls out good. My Dad has skin cancer and everything turned out good for us. He still has it, but he manages well. Best wishes!
