What exactly is a "Ricer?" Is it an insulting term?

I'm pretty confused at this point. Theres 100s of groups on facebook that make fun of "ricers." They say that a ricer is an econobox with a fartcannon and a hideous bodykit in an attempt to look fast and cool, while in reality there is nothing under the hood. But theres also groups on Facebook for "all ricers." They actually have real tuners, people that really have some power under the hood. Personally, I can't stand either class, I've got a little respect for the second description because their cars are actually fast, but I just can't get excited about a frount wheel drive car. It's just lame. What is a ricer? Is a rwd j*p car (rx7, supra, s2000) a ricer? Is a mustang or camero that someone has attemped to "pimp out" a ricer? For the real tuners, does a spoiler on a fwd car actually improve acceleration? I know, so many questions, theres alot I don't understand about the term "ricer."

  1. Short for "rice burner." See this on Wikipedia:

    .

  2. bad cuz they are insulting Japanese makes claiming that they are powerless

  3. Usually, but not always, a ricer is an economy car (usually Japanese) that has been heavily modified. The modifications are more often then not meant to make the car look and sound fast when there is in fact little actual performance in the car. Ricers often have unnecessarily loud exhausts that make a loud f**t noise (hence the term f**t cannon). They also often are mislabeled with decals of mods they do not have or package levels they do not have (usually a package that manufacturer never offered). The drivers are often rich suburban white kids. The term is sometimes used to describe all Asian imports. It was originally used to insult Japanese motorcycles in the 1970s by people who rode American motorcycles like Harleys and Indians. Sometimes drivers who have tuners will use the term jokingly to refer to themselves.

Any car can be riced out. Often times, 1990s and early 2000s Mustangs are riced out the same ways the imports are. There is also some people riving out SUVs and trucks.

  4. Just like Pimp was a negative term, and now being "PIMPED OUT" is a good thing.

So Ricer was a negative thing.  But when so many japanese cars run so much better (and cheaper) than other cars, it is NOW a good thing.

    Good Luck...

    P.S.  I still don't like it.
