What you really have to ask is what is LIFE first...life as we classify it is living and breathing organisms made by NATURE. these organisms can think and act on their thinking. So artificial life isn't natural. It's made by something which is other life forms. US humans create artificial life. A computer is a form of this. We tell it what to think and what to do. It doesn't act on just any random "thought' because computers can't have thoughts. It's artificial and constructed. That's basically what artificial life is. HOPE IT HELPED. =)

An android would be artificial life; if all its organs, etc., were constructed, and it had approximately the same life functions as a naturally born being(whether human, or cat, or dog, or whatever), then it could be called artificial life.
