What exactly is being saved?

Salvation is a process. Only God can save a person from sin.

3 stages:

1. salvation from the penalty of sin (justification)

2. salvation from the power of sin (sanctification)

3. salvation from the presence of sin (glorification)

The first is once only, the second is on-going as long as the person is alive; the last is still future.

Religious people mean that you are saved from their God's notion of Justice.

Apparently, their God is willing to torture humans for eternity, if they don't believe in him, so Christians think the best strategy for avoiding this immoral impartation of justice is by snuggling up with the deity capable of it.

That you've been "born again" into another sect of Christianity by "being washed in the blood of Christ." Of course this is from what I hear. I have no real experience with it (thank the FSM).

@ Tedi Lee: If being saved saves us from death, how come I don't see people living beyond 130?

You cannot believe your way into heaven.  

The only way to be "saved" is to experience God directly by connecting with the Spirit of God or as Jesus said the kingdom of God that is within you.

Jesus cannot save you.  You can only save yourself by raising your consciousness to the point where you become one with God, one with the Infinite.

If you read the parable of the wedding feast you see here someone who thinks they can enter heaven simply by saying "Lord, Lord".  Yet because this person does not have the wedding garment on (achieved the consciousness of oneness with God or what some call the Christ consciousness) he cannot enter the kingdom.

You simply cannot be in a state of mind that you haven't achieved yet.  No amount of prayers, rituals, fasting and sacrifices will necessarily make this so.  Neither will not doing these things necessarily make this so.

To get to this state of oneness, you have to walk the spiritual path which mainly involves taking the beam of sense of separation from God out of your own eye and replacing each wrong decision of separation with a right decision of oneness.

The only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

This is a false doctrine of salvation employed by Christianity to remove you from the source and thereby exert control over you through fear of damnation.

Jesus brought the message to us that all we need to do to be saved is "love thy neighbor".

The Church however couldn't have people become self-empowered and establish a direct relationship with God, that would cut them out of the loop. So they tell you that the only way to God is through Jesus, and there's nothing you can do to earn your way other than hope for "salvation".

Nothing could be further from the truth. All you need to be "saved" if you want to use that word - is radiate the Love of the Creator to All. All you need to do to contact God directly is meditate. Don't bother praying because most people pray by asking God for stuff. Don't bother - it doesn't work that way. Meditation is listening to God, and all the Divine guidance you need to find you way back to the loving arms of the Creator will be found there.

Being saved means from death, the world, the flesh, the sin AND FROM YOURSELF!

Only Jesus can do this!

It is repenting of your sins, which means to turn away from them and stop practicing these sins. It is asking for the Holy Spirit to come and live inside you and to become one with your spirit. Not being saved is being separated from God. In this state you are still going to live forever, but outside of God there is no love, mercy, compassion, happiness, joy, or any of the positive things of life.

Presumably, your soul. But the soul itself is like that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. It may or may not exist. Chances are that it probably doesn't.

In other words, Christianity is a gamble. The presumption is that if they are wrong, they lose nothing, but if they are right, they gain eternal happiness. Now, those seem like pretty good odds: human lifetime vs. eternity. But that's a bit like buying a $1 lottery ticket and expecting to win billion-million-gazillion-frillion dollars. Do you have that much faith?

Being saved means that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and "Savior". You believe in your heart and confess that He was sent from God and He was raised from the dead and that He is coming again. You will be saved. That also means that you have to live a Christian life and confess your sins.

I suggest you steer clear of Religion if you like your brain and thinking freely.
