What exactly is exponential population growth and ecological capacity?

I need notes for both words but there is not much on the net on these two. Examples are great, thanks everyone!

  1. exponential population growth is when the population increases by a set amount each year,

    e.g. 100%: 1 million in yr 1, 2 million in year 2, 4 million in yr 3, 8 million in yr 4 etc.

    ecological capacity is the ability of an ecosystem to maintain its current, natural, or original condition.


  2. With exponential growth the birth rate alone controls how fast (or slow) the population grows.

    An  ecological capacity is the ability of an ecosystem to maintain its natural and current conditons, in the production of new resources.
