  1. i have made a couple of wagers for jockeys before.

race fixing could mean alot of things.

    1. the jockeys set up a race so another horse will win at nice odds.

2.the barn feels the horse has too much weight and decide that

by having the horse get beat, they can drop the weight and win

at a higher level, for a better purse.

    3. too much money is put on a horse to show.(they call this plunging}

a person will wager at least $200.000 to show to get back a $10,000

profit. if he places in the top 3....the track will take a hit.(they don't

have the money in the pool to cover the bet. so they will have the

jockey run the horse off of the board.

    4. some jockeys carry batteries or stingers(shockers) when you hit

the horse it gives him a jolt( not race fixing just cheating)

    5. trainers will juice there horses( this week Patrick biaconne, was found

with snake venom in his stable area, and has been suspended 1 year.

some of those horses will run on Oct. 27 at the breeders' cup.

any more question, e-mail me direct for some juicy stories about

the wagers i have made for some jockeys, names will be protected.

  2. There are several methods of race-fixing.  The oldest, but now least common method, would be to slip a horse (usually the favourite) an tranquilizer.  Due to routine drug testing this does not happen very often now - altough a horse has recently tested positive for ACP in the UK.

The only way you can guarantee that a particular horse will win a race is to get at ALL the jockeys in the race - this is very difficult and the more people involved the more likely someone will report it.

The current case in the High Court involving Kieran Fallon is based around the Betting Exchange - Betfair.  The difference with betting exchanges is that as well as backing the horse you think will win you can "lay" a horse to lose.  Usually the odds are reversed, so the favourite is the least likely to lose so has a bigger price than the 100-1 outsider, who is pretty much guaranteed to lose.

I don't think you have betting exchanges in the USA and you should do everything you can to stop them springing up!  I firmly believe they will be the ruin of our racing industry and that this current case would neer have happened without them.

  3. basically Luv2Rope is spot on-there are many different ways to do this deed but generally the sport is very clean and only a few rotten apples spoil the image, and they soon get weeded out for the lying, cheating dishonourable pillocks they are.

  4. Fixing is doing something to change the outcome of a horse race (it is illegal, of course). Some things that have been done are drugging the the horse you don't want to win, stuffing a sponge deep into the horse's nasal cavity (won't be noticed but will affect horse' breathing and running). Other plots over the years have included jockeys intentionally letting their horse lose by not urging the horse on, getting him boxed in, or other strategies.

Other things have consisted of doing something to increase a horses' performance such as "milk shaking" which involves giving the horse a baking soda and water mix through a tube before the race. Somehow this substance improves racing. Then there are steroids, too, and other performance enhancing substances.

However, all these things are looked for nowadays. Horses are routinely tested for forbidden drugs and stewards keep an eye out for jockeys who don't look like they are riding to win. It would be pretty hard in this day and age to get away with race fixing.

  5. a jocky on a dead cert horse holds it back so it just gets beat, comes second, some one will have a fortune on the second fav to win, they win a fortune then meet the jocky in a lay bye and you can guess the rest........

  6. It means that the horse who will win a race is known in advance.  I used to work with race horses.

Some horses are more than capable of winning a race, but are 'held back' by the jockey so they place lower.

Often this is done to make the betting odds higher for the horse so that when it is allowed to win the payout is higher.
