  1. I work at eHealthInsurance.com and we define private health insurance, also known as “Individual and Family Health Insurance” as “a type of health insurance coverage that is made available to individuals and families, rather than to employer groups or organizations. Given the option, most people would prefer to have their employer provide group health insurance coverage. But, if this is not an option for you, it is still important for you to seek coverage. You may be pleasantly surprised with the variety and affordability of the individual and family health insurance options available.”

Private health insurance also includes dental, vision, student and short-term health insurance, or more broadly, any health insurance you can buy that is not sponsored by your employer. Unlike employer sponsored health insurance, in most states you can be turned down due to pre-existing condition. However, if you are approved for a private health plan, as long as you keep paying the premiums, you get to keep the plan until you are 65 years old, regardless of any change in employment.

If you are looking to get a new health insurance plan, I suggest you check out my company’s site: eHealthInsurance.com. We have partnered with over 175 insurance companies, so chances are you will be able to find a health plan in your area that fits your needs and budget. 2. health insurance that you pay for yourself, and it cost a lot of money, it is better if can work for a company that provides you with health insurance it cost less

  3. Private health insurance is ins that you carry and pay for by yourself.  You can find some reasonably priced packages out there, especially if it's just for you, and not a family.  Stay away from unheard of companies and go with large, familiar icons.

  4. Individual or family insurance - as opposed to group, or more technically correct - employer sponsored insurance.

The most important factor about an individual or family plan is that you own it, not your employer. As long as you continue to pay the premiums, the policy is yours. Unlike automotive insurance, you can't be singled out for a rate increase, nor can the health insurance carrier cancel your policy based on your claims experience. If you have health conditions, you may not be able to buy an individual or family health insurance plan.

    Group plans are guaranteed issue.
