What exactly is "Black Salt" what is done with it and where is it from?

    Black salt is an unrefined mineral salt. It is actually a pearly pinkish gray rather than black, and has a strong, sulfuric flavor. Uses: Use in authentic Indian cooking. Available in very fine or coarse grain.

  4. I'm going to presume that since you are asking in the paranormal section that you aren't talking about the black salt for cooking.

    There is another type of black salt that is sometimes used in wicca rituals and VooDoo rituals. It as the same base as described by the other answerers (unrefined mineral salt) but sometimes oils, herbs and colour are added for the ritual purposes.

    Generally its thought to have protective qualities and is used to remove a jinx, ward off evil, clear a space, etc.
