I'm planning to visit my best friend this saturday at Lackland A.F.B, she's in tech right now for air force security forces, but she said something about probably being on lockdown, but she wasnt sure if she was. What exactly is it? Lackland is only a 4 hour drive away from me, can she find out early saturday if she'll be on lockdown or not, and then call me so I can be sure is I should drive down or not? How does lockdown work?

thanx! :]

  1. Speaking as an Air Force Security Forces member - they like to do this.  The base would not be on lock-down....just the cop tech-schoolers (when I went through it was the Jail-House..8 years ago).  Lock-down is when no-one is allowed to leave the dorm.  They are basically, layman terms here, grounded.

There are pay phones in the bays she could use to call you if she does not have a cell, also - it depends on how long she has been in tech school if she is allowed to leave the main base (Phase system...) - but she would know the answer to this.  I would plan on going to see her, but wait for her call before you make that long drive!!  Good luck I hope you get to visit her (so nice to have visitors at that time!!!)!!

  2. A lockdown at Lackland can mean that the base will be closed to all but military traffic/personnel or that military personnel will not be allowed to leave base.  She should be informed of the duration of the lockdown at least a day in advance.
