What exactly is the Nobel Prize?

I've heard such a great deal mentioned about it,

But I don't really know exactly what it is or how you get it.

  1. Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.


  2. It's a prestigious award given to those who are considered outstanding in the fields of physics, chemistry, psychology, medicine, literature and peace.

    It was established in Alfred Nobel's will in 1895.  He was the inventor of dynamite.
