Assuming CO2 is the main culprit. What exactly do scientists say is happening chemically/physically that would cause global warming?

  1. Many now believe that increased CO2 levels are a result of global warming, not a cause.

  2. Nothing, believe it or not CO2 has no correlation with the rising temperatures.

  3. The plants are taking care of the CO2 as fast as they can. The more CO2 the better plants grow so they will take care of it all soon.The scientist are those working on it so they are biased. If they reported there was no problem then they would  be out of a job.

  4. CO2 is a greenhouse gas.

    This document is a fairly thorough description of how CO2 works in the atmosphere. It will give you a good grounding on how CO2 is involved in the whole AGW discussion.

    I recommend it to all.

  5. CO2 absorbs infrared radiation and re-emits it.  There is no chemical reaction involved.  You could write a reaction like this:

    CO2 + upwelling photon --> CO2 + upwelling photon + downwelling photon

    By adding an absorptive material some of the IR radiation that would have escaped the Earth's atmosphere gets re-directed downward, and raises Earth's temperature
