  1. It varies from yellowish-white to gray, depending on the region of the brain.

As for the consistency, I'm not sure, never having worked on a living brain.  I've heard that the preservation process makes the brain much more fragile, though.  I think a living brain would be much more elastic (maybe even rubbery), since it's possible to get instruments deep inside a living brain without causing permanent damage to the outer layers.

  2. Unlike the grayish/whitish preserved brain specimens people usually see in movies and photos, the living human brain is bright red due to blood circulation and jell-like in consistency.

From a fun brain FAQ video http://www.brainandspinalcord.org/media-...

  3. the brain is pinkish greyish

  4. Once you get down to it.  The actual brain has a gray outer layer, and the inside is an off white.

This of course would be hard to see with all the blood that is constantly going through it. With all the blood, everything kinda looks like a Tan/Beige kind of color.

    Too me at least.

  5. All my neurosurgeon friends say the consistency is just like jello.

  6. The surface of a living brain is ivory colored except for the blood vessels which are red.

  7. Whitish. convoluted, structure.
