What exactly is the problem with stem cell research?

I really don't see a problem with it because it seems to have such great potential. Why are people against it?

  1. because some people(mostly christians) think that it is killing babies because the cells are usually from fetuses. i dont understand it really, but this is their argument. what can be done is taking only a few cells from the fetus so the fetus can still live, but they believe that is also wrong because those few cells could potentially grow into another baby. what they dont understand is that one cell line made from one baby can be used many many different times, because the cells just keep reproducing into the same thing. people are idiots sometimes. i am sure they would say the same thing to me, but thats ok i guess.

    make it a good day

  2. this relates to pro choice or pro life, stem cell would be alright, but fetal stem cell research in my eyes is killing a baby.

  3. No, it does not kill babies. They take stem cells from baby teeth, and umbilical cord blood. This does not cause any harm to human life at all.  Actually it does not harm anyone. It could help to cure disease such as diabetes, muscular dystrophy, parkinson's, paralysis, and alzheimer's. What is so bad about that? I believe that we should use stem cell research. It would save, and improve so many lives of people who are suffering!

  4. the reason people have such a problem is because the fetus cannot be alive in order to get what they need.  so basically ladies get knocked up and then have to terminate the pregnancy.  its an anti-abortion thing.

  5. there is potential, however alot of people are against it becuase they get stem cells from child embryos even thought they are technically not alive people see it as taking a life. so i think thats the big problem

  6. As Edg1 said, Fetal stem cell research is what is controversial. Sure the democrats want to pretend that the objections apply to any stem cell research, but that is not the case.

It is specifically stems cells obtained from aborted fetuses or lab created human embryos.

  7. Well it usually takes an aborted baby to practice on....Or a baby that is taken out of the womb.

  8. Its because people think that we are messing with god. Or Playing God. Alternating nature is a huge no no in religous eyes.

  9. People dont want scientist to mess with mother nature :P

  10. the problem is drug companies wont make any money after major diseases like diabetes are cured

  11. It is a knee jerk reaction from people who haven't thought it through very well. They just think "KILLING BABIES" and leave it at that. But really, most stem cells are not obtained from "fetuses" at all, but embryos, balls of undifferentiated human stem cells that are the first stage in pregnancy. A lot of the people who have a problem with stem cell research are also unaware of the source of most embryonic stem cells - that is, leftover fertilized eggs from fertility treatments that would just be discarded otherwise.

And then there is the crowd who object to "messing with god's plan" - there is no arguing with these folks. They can (and have) use this same "argument" to justify refusing life-saving medical intervention to people who need it.

  12. The problem is taking a fetus and using it to harvest cells. Many people believe life begins at conception, as soon as the egg and sperm combine (in a uterus or in a test tube) I am not in favor of abortion, however, since abortions do take place I think it would be better to use fetal cells for good. I would never condone a woman getting pregnant so a fetus could be taken for the cells.

But there are other ways of getting the cells, the placenta, for example, after the baby is born.

Another problem is at this point there is not total proof that these cells work the way that it is hoped. And if a fetus is used, it should not be hit and miss. The placenta or adult stem cells can be experimented with and if something does not work they can go on and try something else. But many people feel doing this with an aborted fetus is not right.

  13. people associate it with abortion. they dont understand what its really about. If it can really cure paralysis and brain damage I say lets do it!

  14. because they think its killing babies... dosent make sense to thing that one cell is the same as a baby but yah, thats mostly why people are agianst it...

  15. Its not the stem cells themselves to most people its how they are retrieved. (BABIES)

Also, some people feel that it is wrong to grow new things and its gods duty to create organs and all that stuff.

  16. Not stem cell research-FETAL stem cell research.
