What exactly is the "Down Low"?

Is it the same thing as being in the closet. I know it has something to do with homosexuality, but I'm not sure what it is. Is being in the close and being on the down low the same thing?

Down low is like being in the closet but its more of a bi sexual thing also. its like covering up the truth about you

yes but the person involved(typically i male) has a wife and kids or girlfriend, and cheats or sleeps with men without anyone knowing. so yes its the same thing.

Keeping it on the down low (or DL for short)  is not specifically a "g*y" term.  It means to keep it discreet or out of sight.

So if your sharing your bag of M&Ms and don't want other people to see, you could say to your friend, "Here's some M&Ms, but keep it on the DL"

Down low is not only being in the closet but most guys on the down low will do things like date women, get married & act hard to make people think they are straight.
