What exactly is this yellow gunk coming out of my eye?

There has been some yellowish gunk coming out of my eye for quite some time now. It causes a feeling of pressure behind my eyes. It is accompanied by severe headaches and the same pressure to be felt in my ears. I have already seen my doctor and been sent to the local eye doctor. When the Eye Doctor counldn't see what was wrong, he then sent me to a Neurologist. As it turns out, he didn't know a thing about this either. Later, I was sent to a Retina Specialist. Afterwords, the Retina Specialist said I should see an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist. I just got back from my appointment and the Ear Nose and Throat Specialist said I should see an Optometrist! It seems as if none of these doctors know what they're doing. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? And why exactly no one seems to know the problem?

  1. There are several things this could be.  If it was an infection in that area you would probably already be very sick if it has gone on that long.  You would have noticed fevers and likely a lot of redness around your eye.  If none of the physicians have ordered or performed a CT scan of your head, you need to get one looking for an abscess (collection of pus).

There are also things called mucoceles that are little glands that go haywire and make a bunch of mucous that drains through the skin.  Usually they can be removed.

It might also be a blocked tearduct which is easily detected and fixed by an ophthalmologist.

If all of these things have been checked and ruled out, then I'm at a loss.  Make sure you've had a CT scan of your head (or "cat scan").
