What exactly is ugly?

People are always calling other people ugly, but what exactly is ugly?..is it acne, braces, big nose, wrinkles?,,because things like that you can change.

Some things that seem to be common in our society's view of "ugly" include the following:

1. lack of symmetry (deformity of facial features, etc)

2. lack of consistency in skin tone (scarring, acne)

3. old age

4. morbid obesity (again, there are exceptions to everything)

5. extreme underweight

I am not saying these things to be mean. Life is not fair. But I am suggesting that most Americans do not find the above traits to be physically attractive

Sadly, it's what the celebrities aren't and what media says is "ugly". Usually big ears are considered "ugly", in my opinion, i love big ears on a guy lol. It's really just a person's perspective, and what they think is ugly. Ugly can be anything, to many people ugly can be beautiful and the other way around. There is no real "ugly", i would say.

i think its different for everyone. i also think that it is sumtin that other people just cant stand.......mayb u have a zit on ur face and ppl r like ew thats gross! or thats ugly!! but the next the day they have it......point is (sidetrack lol) i think its just what other people dont like but everyone is different so there is always sumtin ugly for everyone...

I don't think ugly is as much appearance as much as it is personality. When you're mother always used to tell you that beauty was only skin deep/personality was what shone through,etc etc, it's the truth. I mean, think about who's "popular" Are they all picture perfect? Of course not, but are they confident? Yes. Do they have great personalities? Yes. Now, are there any "popular" guys/girls who are unconfident and have a bad personality? I'll be pretty surprised if there are.

I think people call others ugly because it makes them feel pretty.

But there is an imperfection about everyone, so therefore everyone would be ugly. But that's not right.

I think people consider "beautiful" is when people try to look like the girls that are airbrushed in the magazines, anyone that does live up to that is ugly.
