ive been playing guitar over a year now, and my improvising has been good, but it doesnt really seem to be unique in any way. its had a bit of "bluesiness" to it, and im interested in developing that. what should i work on to develop my blues guitar skills?

eric clapton is the blues player who i would like to sound more like, particularly in the solo for this song.

  1. Well work on your chops learn your appregios, scales(minor, blues,), work on techniques blues guitarist are know for there smooth pulloffs and slides. try phrasing yourstuff better and you'll be on your way in no time.

  2. I've got news for you Sunshine... you will NEVER be able to play guitar like Eric Clapton... he is one of the best EVER.!

If you have been playing a year... you need to go back to the BASICS and learn music theory and how to read music, if you haven't already, because if you REALLY want to solo well... IT TAKES BASIC KNOWLEDGE.

Hire a TEACHER and have them work with you... because without a good grounding in the basics, you have gone about as far as you are ever going to go.

  3. Hey

Eric Clapton playing is easy. Learn the pentatonic major and minor scales as this is what he uses 85% of the time. Simple?

But that is what he uses. Learn them and you will see how close you get to play like him. Don;t forget that when you try to copy another guitar player, it is never you. You will always sound second best.

I never copy and I canplay like any of the top players but I prefer to do my own thing. this way, nobody can say that I don't play good because they hav eno one to compare me with. I have my own technique and sound.
