I have a appointment on Tuesday to go see one, I fell last year 32 feet off a ladder and broke through planks on scafolding with my back. I was in the hospital for a few days I had a pocket of air logged under my heart. Anyways recently my back has been hurting alot at night and evenings. When I go do they make you strip down, or just your shirt? My hurtting is at my lower back. I am seeing a male doctor so I will feel uncomfrotable if I need to completely strip nude. Do they make you?

  1. you are the reason why yahoo answers is going to h**l what kinda stupid q is that

  2. they make you unzip your pants so they can take x-rays which are useless. If you do go i can give you the pro's and con's of why you should or shouldn't go.

    Pro's and Con's of Chiropractors

    Pro's

They can relieve stress on spinal nerves caused by things like muscle tension or a slight misalignment of the discs and can be helpful in musculo-skeletal aches and pains, through manipulation and massage, and relief on back pain from the misalignment temporarily.

They can help with many different aches & pains all over the body.

Could be last resort when no one else can help..

Most charge much less then a real doctor.

    Con's

    Not FDA approved

Does not have a medical degree.

    Can not prescribe prescriptions.

Nothing they do is going to be a permanent fix.

They are pretty much shut out by the medical world and have not contributed anything in the medical field

Can end up costing you a lot more then a real doctor over the long run.

A lot of them promise they can change the natural shape or curvature of a spine, when its simply not true. Only an orthopedist can evaluate the situation and determine if a scoliosis is actually present, and if a brace would be of help. To change a spine takes surgery and braces.

Chiropractors work on your back to eliminate your "subluxations", which they can't prove exist, and in some studies where they show a back x-ray to multiple chiropractors, they all diagnose subluxations, but of course no two ever seem to diagnose them in the same place on the x-ray. Fixing subluxations is supposed to "help the body keep itself healthy". It's also preventative, once a month, to rub a rabbits foot for good luck.

    My Conclusion

Always check with your primary care physician before getting any medical help. Try stretching first. There are several back exercise you can easily find on the net, which have really helped me. A Physical therapist or an orthopedist are both better alternatives. Be very cautious when going to the chiropractor and never let them take X-Ray's and never get preventative care. They are only good for relief of aches and pains for a short period of time and it's not guaranteed. You do not need to see him regularly, only when you have pain. Always be firm and never let them push you around and take more money from you. If you let them walk over you, it could end up costing you a pretty penny.

Although it has existed for nearly 100 years, the chiropractic health-care system has failed to meet the most fundamental standards applied to medical practices: to clearly define itself and to establish a science-based scope of practice. More disturbing is the fact that chiropractic has made no contribution to the worldwide body of knowledge shared by the health sciences and continues to isolate itself from the mainstream of the health-care community. If you have a problem in need of health care, seek a qualified professional, usually starting with your MD. Above all, keep a skeptical attitude toward all claims that seem too good to be true. They usually are! I hope this helps and if they do tell you to strip naked I suggest reporting them.

  3. First things first. Under no circumstances should you undertake chiropractic unless referred by your doctor. The doctor will gain all the information necessary for a treatment plan and you should stick to it. During that time, if you feel any pain, discomfort or have movement difficulty, stop the treatment and return to your GP and have it re-assessed. He may refer you to a specialist who will examine you further with the use of ultra-sound and physical examination.

There should be no requirement for you to be naked at any time, and should he request that you strip, ask him the reason and explain that you do not take off your clothes unless the person with you gives a good reason and I fail to see why that would be a requirement.

Feeling uncomfortable with a physician because of a request is something that you should consider. If you don't think he is asking you to strip for the right reason, leave the office and go to another doctor; tell the new guy why you left and let him take it from there. Doctors are under very strict guidelines and they have a code of practice. Should they breach that, they probably will be hauled up before a board to explain the action taken. In the majority of cases, you will find doctors have a justifiable reason for asking you to undress.

The fact your back is hurting may be caused by posture. Whatever, have a check done by a qualified person and again, don't use a chiropractor without advice you know you can trust. Also, Kyle, if that pain is happening to you consistently, that is sufficient grounds for a re-examination.

  4. They crack your spine for the fun of it. Whether it helps or not is dependent on their skill.

  5. Went to a chiropractor and was told I had chronic SI syndrome (yeah right) saw ortho surgeon he ordered MRI scan and found I have a slipped disc...big difference.....see someone who knows what they are talking about rather than someone who wants your money and can do you more harm....good luck

  6. It depends how they asssess your individual needs. Normally they will make sure you are comfortable enough, just express your concerns and I am sure he will accomodate your need for privacy.
