It sounds like the person thinks you are self-centered and egotistical, so they are telling you to lose the ego,

It basically means to stop revolving all topics around your own interests, not others.  

For example: if someone wants to go to the movies and you want to go to the arcade, you say no, I will go to the arcade anyway you got to the movies alone.  This does not happen once but all the time.

It could mean that you think of yourself, act for yourself, and basically think of only yourself all the time.  And this person is trying to beg you to think of them.
