Question:

What exercise regime should I do before I start boxing?

I havent really got any proper equipment, just like skipping rope and dumbells.

  1. Well, the skipping rope is excellent, because it works your cardiovascular conditioning as well as your reflexes.  You've got to jump when your eyes tell you, and that's something you will need in boxing.  The dumbells are good if they aren't very heavy.  You want to do curls and shoulder shrugs at light weight, 3 sets of 15+ reps at a minimum.  Remember you want to be flexible, you don't want to pile on muscle mass.  Beyond that, cardio, cardio, cardio.  Run, walk, bike (on the street or stationary), swim, wear ankle weights all day to increase your work level during the activities of daily living.  Don't even think of starting your sport-specific training until you can run three miles without stopping.


  2. Start doing your roadwork, that is, run every morning to build your stamina.  Yeah, your skipping rope is definitely good for you.  It's also a stamina-builder and it will give you good legs.
