Question:

What exercise should I do to lose weight in these areas?

I've got the majority of my unhealthy weight in the worst places. My stomach (all around), thighs, and buttocks and need to know what kind of exercise slims these areas down the most effectively. There is no time frame but I'm thinking 4-6 months should do it.

  1. Okay, first off, I have heard this question many times, but there's only one answer.

You absolutely can't TONE an area. Take your stomach for instance, maybe you have a bit of a belly or some extra tummy fat. Well when you do things like crunches, leg curls, and sit ups, that builds MUSCLE in that area. However, if that area is covered with fat, you can't see that muscle. To get rid of the fat, you have to invest in time in doing good cardio, like running. That is what melts the fat. If you spend about an hour exercising every day, 4-6 months is a good time to lose a lot of fat in that area.

    Hope that helped you.

  2. Aerobics! it will help you heaps in all those areas.

  4. Sadly, you can't just lose fat in a certain area. Dun work that way. You must lower your over all body fat and it will come off everywhere. The caveat being that your body stores most of it's fat in certain areas (gut, butt, thighs, etc), so you will see a change in your 'worst' areas first.

The *only* way to burn fat is to burn more calories than you consume (I kid you not; any weight loss system uses that basic concept). The best exercise for fat loss is cardio intervals. Pick a form of cardio (cycle, run, swim, w/e), then rather than going at a constant pace for a long time, alternate going fast and slow. For example, (on a effort scale of 1-10, 10 being brutal) run at about a 7 for 30 seconds, then jog at about a 4 for 90 seconds. Repeat 4-8 times in a workout, try for 4-6 times a week. Some people also enjoy resistance training, which has a similar effect; try to do weights in a circuit, rather than resting between sets.

Both of these methods get and keep your heart rate up, and burn up your body's energy reserves faster. This causes your body to break down the fat to replenish them.
