  6. If you're actually asking about this for tennis reasons, you want to strengthen your wrist, not increase its flexibility.  Your wrist should only move on your serve.  For anything else, the wrist should stay pretty firm.  If you use too much wrist when swinging, you'll end up injuring yourself.  And your wrist should be plenty flexible to do what it needs to do.

If you want to strenthen your wirst, there's many ways to do it.  You can buy a gadget that's got springs and such to squeeze, or you can just squeeze a tennis ball.  This works forearms, too, which are much more important than your wrist.  Just squeeze a tennis ball as hard as you can 100 times a day.  It sounds easy, buy the burn sets in after 50, and it's tough to get to 100.  If you can't do it with a fresh ball right away, start with a dead one.

Also, you can actually lift for your wrist/forearm.  Find a flat surface you can lay your forearm on with your hand hanging off, palm side up.  Hold a 5 lb weight in your hand, and slowly lift it as high as you can using just your wrist (arm stays on table), then go back as low as you can.  You should actually go to where your fingers are just hooking the weight as low as you possibly can.  Do the same with your hands palm side down.

  7. do full wrist rotations slowly. also you could try holding your wrist like for stretching your fore arm.

  8. I also play tennis and need to make my wrists more flexible. My coach told me one day to buy those little weights that people lift. You take one in each hand and lift them up to your shoulder, making your elbows bent.. Then, you stretch your arms upward so that they're straight. Do about 30-40 each day and it will get better. It certainly worked for me. Also, wrist rotations never hurt.

  9. In the sport of tennis, it is important to possess a strong, firm wrist, not a flexible one.  All properly executed ground and net shots are done with a firm wrist, with the exception of the serve, in which many players choose to snap the wrist downward on impact for added power.  The exercise(s) mentioned above will give you increased strength in the wrist, but you must use that strength to maintain firmness during most strokes.

If you are at a level where you are able to add topspin or backspin to the ball, you do so by rotating the lower arm (from the elbow) slightly, but still, the wrist stays firm.

Every now and then you will come across someone with "wristy" strokes, either because of lack of correct training or as a matter of personal style.  Anyone who plays that way, besides risking serious injury to the wrist, will have shots that resemble someone swatting at something superficially.  As a general rule, that is a highly ineffective and powerless technique, except in very unusual, odd-shot situations (at the net or way off court), you know, the one-in-a-million type!

  10. rotation of wrists
