What exercises and drills should I work on over the summer for middle school volleyball tryouts?

My friend had volleyball tryouts a few days ago and I went with her just to see what it was like and to support her. I would have tried out, only I'm moving out of state over the summer. I though about how I'd like to try volleyball and made up my mind to try out for the 8th grade girls team in Colorado.

At my friend's tryouts, they did things like running (sprints and long runs), serves, push-ups, sit-ups, and vertical jumps. What exercises and drills can I work on this summer to get ready for tryouts? Someone who knows what sort of stuff they do at tryouts, please answer!

  1. hey. im in high school so i know a lot about volleyball. first of all, you always wanna have a good pass. with your hands together and your body in a squating position. have someone in your family throw you the ball and practice passing it to them. also, serves are SO important in volleyball! try to get your overhand serve by hitting the ball on a wall. if you dont get your overhand, just do underhand. another thing is hitting the ball, pratice throwing it up and hitting it! hope this helps, good luck next year and remember PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

  2. My coach does lunges all the time, then we do a thing called a circle run its where the players run around the gym and once you blow the whis. or yell out a command they switch to another skill like for example....everyone starts out jogging then 2 min later u blow the whis. and call out hop-scotch, then u blow the whis. again and yell jog, then you call out sprint and sooo on. Another thing we did is we would play like mini games of 6 on 6 because the players would actually be playing but the losers had to run, do pushups, or situps and it was fun but they really didnt know it was work either.....My last idea is everyone has a school mascot well my schools is the TROJANS and we have a drill called TROJAN JACKS and we do jumping jacks but instead of yelling out 1 or 2 we say the letters and when were all done we clap 2 times and start it all over again!!!! I hope this helps!!!

  3. Lunges. Most definatly lunges.

    Running.

    Eating healthy.

And everything else your friend had to do at try outs. And last but not least, volleyball!! I was best friends with someone on our VB team, and she always came home and complained to me how bad practice was. :] I have second hand experiance. Good Luck!

  4. definately running. I would concentrate more on the quick runs. Also just play volleyball. Get the basics down. The serve will also be key. A good accurate serve is a big plus, it does not have to be the hardest  just as long as the serve is put right where it is supposed to be.

  5. your definatly going to want to be in shape so eat healthy and run every day, it helps to be in shape, and to get better at your hand eye cordination if you have a volleyball go outside and bump it in the air to yourself and see how many you can get without stoping, and what i did to help me out i would get my volleyball and throw it on the roof and wait for it to come down then bump it back on the roof but ask your parents first before you do that, and you watn to be comfortable with diving on the ground for balls trust me i've been doing volleyball for 3 years junior high is easier than high school but don't slack off if you want to make varsity some day, hope everything works our for you.

  6. Try to do some exercises that add strength to the arms and legs: also practice your serves, bumps, middle blocks, and other moves you know.  In no time you will see that you are getting better

  7. im going into 7th grade next year, and i was asking myself the same question. although i was the only 6th grader to make the team this year, i think tryouts will be harder next year.

Coaches love a good serve, so i would make your serve top-notch. also, show a lot of team spirit. practice passing, and hitting. if u are not an awesome setter, then dont work on it. spend time practicing more valuable assets of the game. good luck!
