Yup, almost rugby season now but which are the best exercises for rugby? Other than a lot of cardio of course. i mean muscle building exercises

  1. Legs, core, shoulders,  depending on what position you play.  If you are front row you will want to develop some strength for scrumming, rucking and mauling.  Core (abs and back) is key in all positions.  Shoulders especially for tackling.  Remember, strength and stamina are important in rugby much more so than in American football which relys mainly on strength.  There is far more running so your muscles need stamina.


  2. Cardio and circuit training are obviously the most important.

    When lifting try to focus on your shoulders, back and core. A strong core really helps in the last minutes of a tight match.

    Lastly, work on explosiveness. Power cleans are the best for this.
