What experience and background is needed to be a city council member?

The experience is generally in politics, knowing people.  If you want to get on city council, you might start by getting on some boards.  I live in Milpitas and many political people started on commissions.  They also join groups that do good things like Rotary or Lions club.

Generally you need to be a well known helpful person in your community. City council members just do what they feel is best for your city. It's a job that not everyone wants to do so if you are a civic minded person, run for the office.
