What experiment can you do to determine if a humbergar has E.coli

Can i use the membrane filter technique to find if my humberguer had E.coli.

take a piece of the hamburger and roll it on a petri dish with Eosin Methylene Blue medium. incubate the petri dish for 24 hours in 37 degree C incubator. if bacteria grows you more than likely have e.coli because you are selecting for fecal coliforms which includes e.coli.

blend the hamburger up and plate in on agar plates. If there are gram-negative organisms, it is probably E.coli. What kind of experiment/ how in depth are you looking for?

Cooked hamburger or raw?

Its possible that raw meat may be contaminated but cooking will destroy the bacteria and traces of the contamination.
