What expriences have you had with interacting with the police department on community policing?

What are your opinions on community policing? Do you believe it is beneficial?

If you are referring to community policing in the way I think you  are, the local police departments have a special dept. within the police dept. that handles organizations and say community events. They bring out tools to enhance the community awareness to drugs,gang intervention, blocking off certain streets to ensure safety for the participants at a particular event,sometimes they donate to the event tee shirts and they get the Police Chief to come out and answer questions and do sort of a meet and greet the members of the dept.They even serve as cooks for the cook out portion of the event in a lot of cases they will partner with the local Fire dept.  Usually Non-Profits can get security for the event for free. The Fire dept. will usually come out and bring the "Safe House" It is a miniature house on wheels. It is used to teach Fire Safety because so many people still do not know how to make a safe escape route in case of a fire. They walk children and Adults through a smoke filled MOCK Fire. NO flames just smoke. They bring fire hats and a miniature fire truck for the children and sometimes a real fire truck to teach children about the work they do and how to stay safe.I'd say this is a beneficial  service to the community.
