  1. Rachel told you basically everything that I would've told you.

Just wanted to give you a couple of guinea pig sites:

    www.guineapigcages.com

    www.guinealynx.com

both have forums that can answer your questions about guinea pigs.

  2. Fleece.

A layer of newspaper over the cloroplast, a layer of towels, and then fleece on top.

The fleece will result in some very happy piggies. Polar is the best to use, but anything 100% polyester and anti pill should work just fine. It wicks away moisture to the underlayer, where the towels absorb. It does need to be maintained daily, but sweeping mine with a dustpan and broom takes only a few minutes. Every few days, I roll the towels and fleece up, and replace it with fresh towels/fleece. The soiled stuff can be shaked and brushed and tossed in the washer. Keep 3 sets of cage fleece, and you'll never have to buy bedding again. Just wash and reuse.

Be sure to wash the fleece 3-4 times before cutting it to size, and do not use fabric softener as this creates a waterproof barrier.

  3. I find sheets and towels from thrift stores are the best buy. I use pillow cases from the thrift store with a towel inside. This is the easiest to clean for our rescue.
