Take the metal item and sandblast it. Be sure not to handle it with your hands because of the oils from your skin. Then dip it in what is called Black ox or black oxide. After you do that,dip it in black oil and it will never rust! This process actually speeds up the rust process so fast that it puts a coating on the metal. They do this in machine building all of the time.

BTW, if it's a wedge that happens to be rusting, you may want to let it be. Oxidation on the face of a wedge is highly desired by some -- gives more bite, they say. Some new wedges (Titleist Vokey with oil can finish comes to mind) are designed specifically to rust.
