What factors affect Turbidity?

Question

Yes, finally I have moved on from math to biology... a much calmer subject! (if you have no idea what I'm talking about have a look at some of my previous questions!)

Just wondering what factors affect turbidity? I know how turbidity affects water systems etc; but what affects turbidity?

turbidity can be caused by excess amounts of phytoplankton in a water system (think algal blooms, commonly caused by pollution)

it can also be caused by sediment in water and storm run-off, both forms of pollution

basically, decreased turbidity in water systems is a result of pollution :)
