  2. Biggest factor for English dominance in the New World was the British navy; it made England the world's superpower of the 1500s and 1600s.  Also, England established colonies of families that established homes.  They ran off the natives and took the land.

    Spain sent conquistadors and priests to conquer and convert.  They killed the men and married the women..

    France sent traders who made friends with the men and lived with the women.
