Question:

What factors led up to our current cultural situation where men are held in such disdain by women and media?

let's start with the given - that men are viewed with disdain by many, many women.

Was this the case back in the 1950s? 1960s? 1970s? When did it start? Why did it start? Will it ever end?

  1. maybe the backlash of 5000 years of not having the same rights as men. That would p**s anyone off. It will all balance out eventually.

  2. It wasn't the 60's that's for sure. I don't know; I only noticed it with all the king of queens and Everybody loves Raymond's. It's the same type of clique'. The fat stupid man marries a nagging hot wife. I can't even watch tv anymore; all the shows are the same.

The stupid canned laughter and the fat pig male, the anoying ***** wife. I don't know these people in reality; but if I did.... Ohh I tell ya.

I don't hate men no-one I know hates men, I think the media stick with what they know because it takes less time to plan; less people to write. MORE mula for their fat pockest.

  3. Women make up most television viewers. Single and divorced women make up the fastest growing demographic of television and news viewers.  In order to appeal to these single and divorced women, men are portrayed as powerless and/or dumb, while the news portrays men as dangerous psychopaths.

  4. "Given"???  Can you cite some examples especially as it relates to the media?

Most women who are feminists have and admire their fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, male friends, etc., and certainly have no "disdain" in general for a gender.  More specifically, most women I know who are feminists point to their fathers with admiration as men who raised them with a high sense of self-worth, valued their intelligence, encouraged opinions and examinations of stereotypes, etc.

I would instead propose that women who view men with "disdain" are a minority - perhaps a more militant and vocal minority, but a minority nonetheless and it is the absence of appropriate male figures who contributed to this.

  5. I am just sad that all i see today is 'men are better no women are better' the media craps on with its bullshit all the time, most of the new movies today are just about advertising whats bloody hot or what someone should bloody eat. I agree strongly with RageAgainst.

I dont know any women who thinks badly of a man just cause he is a man that is silly!

the media harp on (just as RageAgainst said) with there same little cliche of the boring non helpful stupid husband and the angry and teary little hot wife...

we just have to stop buying into all their c**p and just say hey your a man i am a women lets live.... thats it!

  6. It's pure jealousy.

Just like that jealous friend who secretly tries to drag you DOWN as much as possible because they can't achieve your level of success.

Women are jealous of the power and success men have achieved. So many of them smile in our faces while secretly hating us.

What do jealous people typically do? They try to drag down the person they envy at an attempt to lift THEMSELVES up.

    Its simple psychology.

  7. Actually, I think RageAgainst is spot on. It's the latest fashion in sit coms and adverts.

Like in the 1980s, everything was the smart mouth kid ... the whole family were idiots except this one kid, usually about five years old who would tell a heap of jokes based on how funny it was that everyone was an idiot except the kid. And they knew everything ~ how international finance worked, the whole thing.

Then for a while it was shows about ghosts and ghoulies, plus the ever popular murder mystery / detective shows, lots of them.

Now it's shows about families and mostly the wife has the smart mouth. The jokes are pretty much the same as the smart mouth kid jokes, if you ever get a chance to cmpare them.

There's nothing much new on tv. Even the 'dumb man' character has been around for a while, in different guises. After all, think what the joke was in The Honeymooners.

In the entertainment media, 'groundbreaking' is having a black family live in a house in the suburbs.

Seriously, that's how backwards it is.

And it is NOT a healthy way to project images of anyone. Personally, I think the 'dumb man' sterotype that is being projected is as damaging to men as the 'perfect body woman' stereotype.

People need to let advertisers know they won't buy products where such cr@p is put forward. That's what actually works, if anything does.

Because in the long run, every time a consumer buys a product advertised in the media with a 'dumb male' 'perfect body woman' stereotype, they're saying to the advertiser "we agree with this".

    Cheers :-)

  8. No not any time soon will it end.

  9. because they are all after one thing.women are emotional ,men just want to have s*x without commintment.this difference is where the problems start.

women are sick of being used and lied to by men.

  10. I would disagree with half of your statement. I don't think women in general to any great degree hate men.

The Media however is very different. I think they have found that monsters and innocent victims bring in the best ratings. So as such they have become very adept at making and promoting news stories about evil men and the women they victimize.

They also love to promote stories about women and child abuse/murder but only the very heinous stories.

When did it start? to the degree it goes on today? probably shortly after the invention of home TVS

Demonizing of people has always been around in politics and literature, the difference between now and then is people in general didn't expose themselves to 3-4 hours a day every day to literature and politics like they do TV

  11. Give examples?

  12. It has spread from feminism throughout society, anyone here who is saying that feminism hasn't demonised men is either brainwashed or lieing.

This make very interesting reading, feminists victimised and threatened a woman who wanted to tell the truth about domestic violence. They killed her dog and the police insisted her mail came to them, in case she received a letter bomb.
