  1. Do you mean an actual train stopping?If so several factors are involved...Grade of track,loads or empties of rail cars,how fast train is travelling and even what kind of cars are in the train..some cars brake better than others....


  2. I think you'll find that being an "engineer" in another country has confused you into thinking what a trainstop on the (London) underground is - and it's NOT what you think !

Failure on a trainstop could be caused by a broken wire from the signal relay or within the trainstop mechanism, a broken spring on the trainstop, a 'foreign object'  lodged under the arm (usually a tin can blown along the track), loss of air supply to the trainstop or the arm breaking off.  All other "failures" would NOT be the fault of the trainstop itself but rather the failure of associated equipment - like a signal or track-circuit failure, a broken rail, or loss of power supply.

    PS: You can't spell influence or failure.
