right now i have a canon powershot SD890 SI : http://www.canon.ca/english/index-products.asp?lng=en&prodid=1314&sgid=23&gid=2&ovr=1

i recently found out that i am not able to obtain this effect on my camera: http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8171/bluryybgmz6.jpg

(the backgrounf blurry & the person/object in the front very clear)

the only way i can get that effect is with macro.

I'd like to be able to get this effect in a camera as much simalar as the one i have.

Does anyone know a camera that is

-as simaler as the on i already have

-can give me this effect : http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8171/bluryybgmz6.jpg

  1. Only a DSLR can do that....because you can either manually select a focus point for the autofocue or manually focus to get that kind of effect.

  2. A Digital SLR was probably used for that shot.

But to obtain the same (or near to that effect - at least) you may use a digital camera with manual controls...one that lets you adjust aperture and shutter speed correspondingly.

Canon's powershot series S3is/S5is and the G series (G5, G6, G7, G9) may give you the same effect.

  3. mostlikely, the person used a dslr. i think a canon G9 is pretty similar to yours. its a bit bigger, but theres alot more features + you can do that effect.

  4. The Canon A-590IS can do this. So can any camera with an adjustable apature.
