I was brought up vegan, so I've never had meat and don't intend to ever try it, but I was wondering if the fake stuff tasts anything like the dead animal.

  1. the closest I've come to meat tasting stuff is boca burgers.

  2. soy burger crumbles

  3. I was vegetarian for a long time, and still eat a lot of veggie meat subsitutes. Morningstar's Grillers Prime are the only veggie-burgers I've tried that come anywhere near tasting like a real burger. Quorn (a brand that makes meat subsitutes from different mushrooms) makes "chicken" patties and stir-fry strips that taste a little bit like chicken.

Not many texturized veggie protein products anything like animal, I'm afraid.

  4. I think anything with Boca ground "meat" (especially in the lasagna) tastes too much like real meat.  That's why I couldn't eat even that anymore.  The texture was just too gross.

  5. Morning Star = Amazing

  6. I haven't eaten meat in over two decades so it's hard for me to really tell.  I think the Boca vegan burgers are pretty beefy.  And I just tried soy curls the other day... I rehydrated them in a mixture of vegan "chicken" broth and teriyaki sauce, then threw them in a stir fry.  They were really meaty, but that's more a texture thing than a taste thing, I think.

  7. Quorn makes Chick'n b*****s that actually taste quite a bit like chicken, but in my oppinion much better. The texture is spot-on, too, and they're Vegan. I haven't had the Chick'n nuggets yet, but I hear they are fabulous so I just might have to try them next time I make it to the market.

I really don't eat meat stubstitutes to replace the meat though, just to supplement my meals. I love Gardenburgers because there is no secret about the veggies inside them-- they aren't trying to be meat, they're trying to be better than meat.

  8. There is bacon flavours vegitarian and kosher salt.

And a lot of vegie burgers taste like crumby cast food burgers.  You can hardly taste the meat in most of them, just the ketchup and onions.

  9. Nope, they taste for the most part sweet. Majority of it are made from soy beans or mushrooms. Sometimes spiced up a little bit with pepper or chillies. But I love them equally, I have tried duck meat, chicken, mutton and egg yes all vegan.

  10. Boca veggie sausage, I put it in the veggie chili I make and it fooled most the meat eating people who tasted it.

  11. I haven't had that much, but I like Amy's Veggieburgers as a substitute for hamburger.  Texas Style or California Style.

  12. It's been a long time since I ate meat, but I'd say Smart Dogs are very close.

  13. there are a few out there.

morningstar's chicken patties and bacon strips are AMAZING. i swear they're like nessesary staples for me. BUT, if you want something that tastes soooo much like chicken that I checked the box four times to make sure it wasn't, try Quorn chicken nuggets.

  14. I have had the chicken nuggets from the morning star brand and it tastes very much like a real chicken nugget, but the texture is different.

  15. Nobody does fake meat like the Asians! The brand Lamyong - I find it in Asian supermarkets - have a few products which are incredibly like their meaty counterparts in both taste and texture - the soy nuggets (like chicken), soy fillets (kinda like chicken breast strips with a really meaty taste), and the mushroom chunks (like beef/lamb - yes I know they taste different but it's been more than a decade since I ate either so things are getting a bit fuzzy!) are the best imitations. In Australia the only supermarket brand readily available is Sanitarium which used to be good but went soooo downhill - their veggie rashers are the best imitation bacon. Their other products now taste like dogfood. Finally Zoglo's used to make a really tasty crumbed nugget but I haven't found it in at least 2 years, only their schnitzels. Hope this helps!

  16. morningstar farms sausage crumbles taste almost EXACTLY like the real thing.  the texture is a bit different, but the flavor is dead on.  i use it in breakfast casseroles and italian foods, and even my meat eating husband loves it!  when i get a craving for the flavor of meat without the cruelty i reach for these crumbles first.......try them....you won't be disappointed =)

my dad hates fake meat.(He is a meat and potoes fan):  The first time we bought this we forgot top tell my dad. So he kept eatig it and fianlly  he said , emmmmmm..     This is the best chilli that I have ever had, What type is it? My mom just remembered that it was Smart Chilli , so she said"Ummm honey I forgot to tell you that this is fake meat veggie-tarian for Tabby(Tabby is my name:) . Then He had a weird look shruged then kept on eating like he has never ate before. So the point is is that my dad liked , couldn't tell the difference and now he loves fake meat oddly)
