Question:

What features should I look for in a battery tester for NiMH rechargeable batteries?

I want to buy a battery tester so that I can ensure my rechargeables have a decent charge before putting them in a device such as an MP3 player, TV/DVD remote control, or digital camera. Right now the only way I have to test the charge is to put them in the device and see if the device fails to power on. Obviously, this is not a good option, especially when using the camera to capture my toddler's developmental milestones (as well as her megawatt smile!).

I basically want to know what features are necessary and which ones are "nice to have". I don't want to spend an inordinate amount, given the current price of gasoline.

  1. just buy yourself a cheap multimeter for a few pounds for an accurate reading

  2. What test are you going to do?

    Charge/discharge?

Look for the tester with timers and loggers. They can log the battery voltages over time.
