i just started field hockey two days ago and they want us to write down what position we want to play and why we think we would be good for it. Positions:

Forwards - forward wing left, forward inner left, forward inner right, forward wing right

Links - left link, right link

Halfbacks - left back, center back, right back

Sweeper

Goalie

i'm pretty fast and can run good but im not so great at dribbling. i'm good at driving and pushing the ball. and i'm ok on defense but not great. and i know definitely definitely not goalie type. i need 1-3 different positions i could play and why i should play them.

  1. I think you definitely should play mid-field. (Thats like a halfback btw.) Since you are good at running, that would be a perfect position for you. Also since you are good at driving and pushing the ball, mid-fielders have to take free hits....which you would be really good at! Start out at the left or right, and then when you feel confident enough, maybe your coach will move you into the center. Just keep practicing dribbling, passing, and defense and you should be fine. Best of luck! =]

  2. bench warmer

  3. Your first or second bets would be one of the attacker positions for around the same reasons, fast sprints, and obviously you say your good at driving the ball so if you have good aim you could score. the dribbling part would be good because.. unlike defense you don't have to dribble a lot.

I think your 3rd option would be like a mid--Field position, I'm not sure

what that's called in Field hockey, well because you said you were fast

and if you bring that energy to the Field your playing both offense and defense, but the only problem with mid is its the position your touch the ball most and dribble unless you can do accurate quick passes.

I hope this helps and good luck with your season.
