Ok, i know alot of factors can determine this, but lets say the boxer and other fighter have equal skill in their own style and way.

What are some good styles against boxers cause i know you have to at least keep your distance, thank you!

  1. With all abilities and talents being equal, but just a different style.

One of the most important thing to remember is that you must respect a boxer's hands and the power it can generate. Also boxers have very good timing. However the style does have some weakness, because it is a sport and have it's own rules.

Do not out punch a boxer unless your style has better hand skills, which includes sticky hands and one inches punch and chi kung, iron jacket and iron head.

Otherwise go for the boxer's weakness, like dirty boxing and elbows, grappling, takeout his legs with low kicks.

Any style can beat a boxer, if you can enforce the tactics, but if you make a mistake and those boxing combinations start flying, you will end up in the hospital.

  2. Any style using kicks and punches. Just adding that extra factor makes a world of difference.

  3. i  would have to say a muay thai fighter or a kickboxing or karate

  4. Tae Bo !

  5. Trying to out-box a boxer is a horrible plan.  Anything that involves sweeps or kicking the thigh to slow him down is a better plan.  Just make sure to cut angles a lot, because he'll probably try to back you into a corner, and then you're boned.

p.s.  If you're quick enough to plant a few good kicks to the stomach and ribs, go for it.  Then it'll drop his hands and leave his face exposed.

p.p.s.  I'm assuming by equal skill you mean similar levels within their own style, like world champion boxer vs world champion karateka.  Because if they have equal skill as fighters in general then technically I guess it would be a stand-off.

  6. I would say any art that uses weapons.

  7. with everything else being equal I would say,

    Brazilain jujitsu

    judo

    sambo

    jujitsu

wrestling (all forms, if you consider wrestling a fighting form)

    Muay thai

    kickboxing

    those were my fist thoughts,

alot of tradtional martial would probably do well to, TKD several kung fu styles, etc, etc

Its not that boxing is bad, in fact its the best fighting style as far as punching goes, but its limited to just punching. someone who was proficient with kicks could keep boxers at distance and do alot of damage. The ground styles would dominate, just because its easier to get an opponenet ti the ground than it is to KO them. Look at Royce Gracie's 1st UFC fight against that boxer.

  8. i have seen people box they are really strong but what they lack is ground techinque........such as jujitsu, judo, wrestling, ect.

  9. I can not believe no one has said wrestling yet.  We've seen it over and over again in the UFC and like organizations.  Boxers aren't allowed to fight in the clinch or while breaking from it, they can't punch from their backs, and they don't know how to defend against chokes.  A good double leg take down comes right below the waist like a tackle where boxers don't swing.

Boxers also rely heavily on their fitness.   Wrestlers are probably the single most athletic group of martial artists who have similar endurance training as boxers, but much more strength training.

  10. Any style that puts some emphasis on kicks will have an advantage on a boxer, because boxers train only to defend against punches. Their brains aren't wired through training to watch out for kicks.

Any art that focuses on throws and ground-based submissions would have an advantage, as again, boxers don't train to fight this sort of thing. Still, the boxer's focus on punches might give him enough hand peed to essentially outpunch his opponent's reflexes.

  11. The best advice I can give you if you are not a boxer or a kickboxer and you're fighting a boxer is "Don't box with a boxer." He will out punch you any day of the week. If you're a striker, you may be able to trap the boxer's strike before striking him with a combination of punches or a kick. You will want to either kick the boxer repeatedly or take him to the ground, but if you stand and trade punches with the boxer, you are more than likely going to get out-punched and then punched out!

I consider boxing to be a martial art, despite the fact that it is considered a sport.

  12. Sorry to tell you but a style can't fight. A person using a style can, but the style itself is a noun and has no action.

  13. Any form of ground fighting.

  14. Another striking art that includes kicking, kneeing, and so on, such as muay thai, kyokushin karate, and sanshou.

Your best bet would be a grappling art, as they are not used to it, such as Judo, Brazilian jujitsu, and wrestling.

  15. muay thai is the best

  16. well dont try to box back if you do a different style because you will probably get the c**p beaten out of you. but any other stlye should be alright if you learn the right parts of each style. a style with lots of kicks and longer distance works well.

  17. It would have to be a martial art that accommodates / deals with feints.

It would also depend on what (if any) rules are imposed on the competition.

    OR

ANY WEAPON that allows you to maintain a distance outside of the range of the boxer can win (depending on the competence of the martial artist.)

e.g.: Bo, Jo, Quarterstaff, Walking stick, Jian, Spear, etc.

  18. If they're both equal in skill, will either win?

Anyway, I'd say any martial art that deals in long-range attacks(suck as kicks) and strikes to the leg.

  19. It depends on how good you are but the best way to beat a boxer is to beat them at their own game. Believe me, it is much easier than it seems as most boxers don't protect their head and take too long pulling their fist back after punching thus leaving them uncovered. Mike Tyson's old trainer (Cus D'Amato, now dead) taught him how to duck and weave to avoid a punch and then land one instantly thus destroying the opponents confidence as every time they try to hit you, they miss and end up taking one straight back.
