I'm 5' 9" and 110lbs. Seventeen years old. As a girl it's easy to feel scared in a big city but that kinda sucks so i'm finally ready to so something about it. I want to learn a martial art or fighting style. I don't want to learn something where i will spend the next 3 years learning how to block and blow and not do anything else. I want something that can be used to defend or attack. If anyone can give me some help or advice it would be really helpful. If you need more information or would be willing to talk to me just lemme know. Thanks so much.

  1. my friend FLAL likes sub grappling but i say they even.

  2. Pepper spray would probably be best, and when you're old enough, upgrade to a .38 Special.

It would be doubtful the martial arts could be that useful for a woman against a man.

  3. Any type of fighting is good to learn, it is a life skill just like learning how to swim because it can one day save your life.  There are many gyms and clubs have self defense classes that are designed just for girls like you that teach how to use and practice basic techniques, such as kicking us guys in the balls.

  4. KRAV MAGA Easy to learn and very effective for self defence.

  5. TAI KW-ON DO

    SMILE GOD LOVES YOU! =D

  6. Muay thai.

  7. hello, as a martial arts teacher with a 15 year old daughter  who is about  your size, i feel  for you. I placed her in gymnastics so she could learn  about  maintaining her balance. Then taught her trampolining  so  she would be more spatially  aware, then began to teach her escapes from grabs from the front from behind, I taught her how to  take out  a finger a thumb the attackers nose and groin with simple yet effective strikes.

Jade has now done 5 years of karate and knows the martial reasons for her training. It got her out of a situation at school wher she was attacked by  several girls (all older and bigger) and she didnt damage any of them.

aikido, ju jitsu and krav maga not in any order all offer you as a petite sized person the opportunity  to defend yourself.

    blessed be.

  8. my sister, who is much smaller than you, wore her car keys like a brass knuckle to and frome her car- one day, it paid off- she foiled a would-be mugger at the mall.

  9. kick boxing.

fake the kick to the balls and poke them in the eyes or the other way around.

  10. Just take a female self defense course. If you want something you can just pick up quickly Martial arts aren't what your looking for theres nothing that doesn't take a good amount of time to learn. And be proficient enough to practice.

  11. Try aikido, judo, or krav maga.

As a woman, you have certain advantages over men. Your center of gravity is lower, so flips and throws are easier for you. Remember, you don't have to pick just one martial art. You can take a self defense course that incorporates various styles. Make sure you find a class and an instructor that respects you and your abilities.

  12. take a hand gun course.with your size it will take years for you to be able to fight off a nonmartial artist male.an artist.......

  13. krav maga or mauy thai are great but if you just use it and dont know completly what you are doing you could hurt somone a lot more than you want to or need to. so something like juijitsu or kung fu might be better as you can just lock them up really well or do smaller things which wont be considered assault.

  14. I would suggest pepper spray and not walking alone.

City predators can sense fear from a mile away.

You might also want to consider carrying a walking stick. If you do this, you could study JODO / Jojutsu (Japanese short staff) or one of the several martial arts that teach "the cane (or umbrella) as a weapon."

The umbrella makes a very good substitute for the cane.

  15. I would check out the Keysi Fighting Method. It's built upon street combat scenarios where one has to defend their vital organs and deliver quick, disabling blows to protect themselves. It also focuses upon natural human tendencies and reflexes, so it's basically learning how to control your acytions and reactions and how to anticipate and disable aggressors.

  16. Check out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga. Both will be instantly teaching you how to defend yourself in practical situations practically the day you start training.  Jiu Jitsu will focus on groundfighting, which is where more fights end up. I have studied karate for a long time and had someone ask me what would I do with a 200plus lb guy on me -- and truthfully, that is a difficult question given my knowledge!  The Krav maga is a "fight to the death" art-- which I respect.

  17. mai thai. (idk if thats spelled right)

  18. You should try kung fu. It really pays off in the future with this fighting skill. You can defend yourself as well as using offense.
