Different formats for different purposes.

.gif  is usually smallest, but only good for graphics with a small amount of colors.

.jpg can be small too, but if you make them too small they'll look terrible. Used for photo's and pic's with gradients.

.png is the best format for all above, but is somewhat bigger.

JPG or Jpeg saves the a good quality, and loads fater then png,

Gif is horribile quality and loads super duper fast

Png is excelent quality and loads for ever
