  1. kind off a stupid question.....there all equaly needed :S so no real answer

  2.   The one with the most surface area.  Sponges are good, your ceramic medias such as Bio Max or especially the Eheim range of bio medias are among the best.

You should rarely have to change a ceramic bio media, meaning many years.

  3. I think a coarse sponge works well for harboring lots of bacteria.

  4. From all sorts of ammonia remover media,

I believe BIOMAX CAN hold the most :)

But most of the time, the amount is not determined by how much room there is for beneficial bacteria to live. It's more like how much food(ammonia/nitrite) do these bacteria get?

They will eventually form an equilibrium between the amount beneficial bacteria, and the amount of ammonia/nitrite that normally build up.

Therefore, how much the media can hold is irrelevant.

Instead, you should ask, how long those media can last.

My conclusion is still the same, BIOMAX. It is recommended to change every 6 months in normal circumstance. Which is far longer than any other regular ones (1-2 months).

    Hope this helps!

    Good luck :)

  5. the power external filter with the foam inside is a black sponge that gets gunk and the filter grows bacteria or gunk on the walls of the filter if ur tube and catridge are getting a lot of gunk in 5 days then ur overfeeding ur fishes or something is causing the water to get cloudy just wash the catridge and tube when the water cant go trough
