What filter would work best for a aquarium of 20 gallons?

I'm trying to get a aquarium for tropical fishes but i dont know which filter will work the best...

some help please?

I hate all the filter that above 3 have mentioned. I like Fluval plus 3 filter for 20 gallons aquarium. First, it uses 6.5watts/120v, which runs lesser electricity. Second, its internal filter that can be placed underwater, which is silent. Third, It produces more semi-bubbles quietly under water that does not stress the fish within the tank.

I personally love the Tetra Whisper Internal Filter Line. It's completely silent (unless you have a really low water level), and also does a good job (as do all the Tetras). It's also very reasonably priced. (I use it for all my tanks!)

The Hagen AquaClear 200 Powerfilter is the way to go. They run forever and they are totally quiet. A canister Filter would be even better, but that might be a bit much in a 20 gallon. I have three Hagen AquaClear 300 Powerfilters and two Fluval FX5 Canister filters on my tank, but that's a might bigger than what you're using. Make sure you ignore the recommendations on the box and go with the rule of thumb, 10 x the total water volume in your tank. For you, you should be pushing about 200 gallons of water every hour.

Canister filters are 4 x the total water volume in your tank, but that's only is you think your fish can handle the current it's going to generate.

Aqua Clear 50/200.  I used to run (abuse) these in my breeding setup before I switched to a centralized system.  They have a stronger pump than the bio wheels, have greater media flexibility & capacity, and you can extend the intake with tubing & keep them running while doing a 50% water change on a 20 or 29.  The bio wheels die out when trying to do the water change.
